Filipina fights off kidnapper - Cabbie helps damsel in distress 2 held with 25,000 drug pills

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: A Filipina nurse narrowly escaped being abducted by an Arab national early morning Saturday in Riggae, thanks to the timely arrival of a taxi driven by an Asian expatriate.
The victim said the man apparently sneaked up behind her as she was looking for her reading glasses she thought might have fallen out of her handbag after she and her nephew who accompanied her shopping, parted and he left to go to work while she proceeded to her flat behind a residential complex in the area.
She said she went back to where her nephew dropped her off earlier ostensibly to look for her reading glasses.
She said that while searching around and under the cars parked along the road in front of the residential complex, a car stopped and the driver asked for directions to Hawally. She said she answered that it was from where they are and turned to resume looking for her reading glasses.
To her shock and surprise, she said she felt someone grabbed her from behind by her waist and left arm and being dragged by the same man she recognized as the same one who asked her for directions earlier, to his car. She said she screamed for help and furiously fought off her abductor but there was no one around at that early hour (around 6:30 am).
Fortunately, a taxi happened by and the driver, on seeing the commotion, stopped and honked on his horn while calling to her to run to his car. At this, the would-be abductor let go of her and sprinted to his car and sped off.
Despite her harrowing ordeal, the victim still had the presence of mind to note down the car’s license plate number and make and reported the matter to the police.
“I can easily recognize the man as I had a good look at his face while we were struggling,” the victim - who had regained her composure a little while later - said.
Not too long ago in same area not far from where Saturday’s incident happened, a car-riding youth snatched the handbag of an elderly Asian woman who going to early morning mass in downtown Kuwait City. The bag reportedly contained a few dinars and a mobile phone.
Later, co-workers of the elderly woman received a call from a man asking for her and reportedly asking for carnal relations. When she answered that she was old enough to be his grandmother, the man shouted obscenities over the phone.

2 held with 25,000 drug pills : Police arrested two GCC nationals for smuggling drugs into the country and recovered 25,000 narcotic pills from them. The men are also accused of possessing weapons and entering the country illegally, says a security source.
Reportedly, the General Department of Drug Control, in coordination with their counterparts in Saudi Arabia, managed to arrest the men. Sources say, the International Drug Control Administration, acting on information, conducted some investigations and found that a suspect had already entered the country using another person’s passport. The suspect was earlier deported for his involvement in a crime. Undercover agents then persuaded him to sell 200 pills for KD 350 at a camp in Abdali desert area and subsequently arrested him. The suspect guided police to his partner who lived in Jahra and security operatives seized about 24,000 pills from him. Both men were referred to Public Prosecution.
