Court acquits expat trio in cash theft via Internet Gun-toting citizen wins reprieve
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted three expatriates who were accused of stealing KD 350 from a Kuwaiti man’s bank account through the Internet.
Case papers indicate that the suspects managed to acquire the citizen’s online banking details and bought prepaid mobile recharge cards from two telecom companies for KD 350 from his account. The first and second suspects were earlier involved in this kind of crime and were even sentenced.
Lawyer Mohammad Khuraibet, who was defending the second suspect, argued that his client was being accused for a crime he did not commit just because he was earlier involved in a similar case.
The lawyer said there is no real evidence against his client and claimed that the real suspects have not been arrested yet.
Citizen wins reprieve: A Court of Appeals overturned the verdict of a lower court that sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three years imprisonment with hard labor for threatening to kill his wife and two senior officials working in Ministry of Interior.
The court will refrain from pronouncing the sentence, only if the defendant will pay KD 200 bail and maintain good conduct for one year.
The case file indicates the accused was in possession of machine gun, with which he threatened his wife and two ministry officials to complete a transaction.
The defendant lawyer Thikra Al-Rashidi argued the evidence presented was not enough to prove her client guilty. Based on medical report, the accused was under the effect of stimulants, which indicates he wasn’t in the right frame of mind in the course of the incident, the lawyer added.
Bedoun acquitted: The Court of First Instance recently acquitted a Bedoun of drug trafficking.
Case files indicate the Public Prosecution charged the Bedoun with trading in drugs after he was arrested with another suspect in Sulaibiya Industrial Area. The other suspect was also charged with possession of hashish.
The lawyer of the Bedoun argued in court that the pieces of evidence used against his client were actually found in the possession of the other suspect. He asked the court to acquit his client for lack of incriminating evidence, adding the Bedoun has no intention to commit a crime. He pointed out his client has not had any connection with the other suspect, who has not testified in court.
