Govt employees take 300,000 sick leaves in span of ten months Move aimed at ‘not to report to work in a legal manner’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: Public sector employees took 300,000 sick leaves in a span of ten months “to not report to work in a legal manner,” sources told Al-Jarida daily.
Reliable sources in the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said the number of sick leaves is increasing consistently every year because there are no strict regulations to force employees not to act in this manner. The government suffers massive losses due to this truant phenomenon played by employees and CSC has reportedly expressed its disapproval to government institutions, especially since there is still no clear policy in this regard.
“CSC noticed that the Ministry of Health (MoH) has shown gross negligence,” said sources, adding “CSC had earlier asked government institutions not to approve any sick leaves, except those approved by the medical council.”
Sources said CSC requested all concerned departments, especially the ones in the MoH, to put new conditions to suit the current phase and put an end to the sick leaves phenomenon.
