5 expat women get jail; Surgeon acquitted Missing Kuwaiti child’s remains found after 14 yrs

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: The Appeals Court recently upheld the verdict of the lower court and sentenced five expatriate women to three years imprisonment to be followed by deportation after completion of the sentence.
Case papers indicate on Nov 10, 2008 the women were accused of giving shelter to a runaway maid on whom a case had been filed by her sponsor at the Salmiya Police Station for committing theft.
She was also staying in the country illegally. However the lawyer defending one of the women, Faisal Sagar Al-Rasheedi argued his client did not house the woman because she is married and is living with her husband and has a family. The Appeals Court refused to overrule her sentence.

Missing Kuwaiti child’s remains found after 14 yrs: Asian workers discovered the remains of a Kuwaiti child inside a manhole opposite the Ahmadi Governorate. Apparently, the child had been reported missing by his family about 14 years ago.
According to security sources, the Asians found the remains of the Kuwaiti two months earlier in the course of excavation work, and the DNA matched those of the family members filing the missing case in 1996.
It is believed the child was playing in the area and had fallen into the manhole.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s family has since received the remains for burial, and investigation is on going.

Surgeon acquitted: Criminal Court presided over by Advisor Hummoud Al-Mutawa acquitted a plastic surgeon of a major hospital in the country of raping a female patient.
The case file indicates the complainant, who is fond of undergoing plastic surgery, filed a lawsuit against the surgeon after he performed surgery on her face for dimples and she wasn’t pleased with the outcome.
Attorney for the defendant Najeeb Al-Waqyan argued the complainant was trying to blackmail the defendant, and he supported the claim with evidence. He proved the accusation was unfounded, and added the hospital’s policy doesn’t permit patients must be alone with doctors, unless there’s an assistant.

Man jailed in forgery: The Criminal Court recently sentenced one man to three years imprisonment and acquitted two people who had been charged with forging bank documents.
The Public Prosecution had charged the trio with forging bank documents which would enable them to use the account number and secret pin of the plaintiff to buy 60 pre-paid cards from Wataniya and Quality Net through their websites.
The ‘theft’ was discovered when the bank statement showed the purchase of the cards to the tune of KD 1,050.
