Crackdown on expired food items to continue: minister Stick to laws, MoI urges citizens
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19, (KUNA): The Kuwait Municipality will continue to conduct its campaign to end the apparent flow of expired foods into the country, and will not stop until its goal is achieved, a leading official underlined on Wednesday.
After attending a parliamentary investigation committee meeting on the issue, Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipality Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar said that the Municipality campaign would continue and would not stop, until those responsible are brought to justice.
He said the parliamentary committee during the meeting outlined procedures taken to combat commercial fraud, referring to the monitory role assumed by the Municipality over imported foods, adding “we stressed the need to disclose these (imported) foods in order to shed light on the issue more significantly.” The Municipality has been taking samples of foods in the country for close study and analysis.
“Clampdowns will continue, and will not stop,” the minister said, noting that this is aimed at clearly illustrating the efforts of the Municipality, sending a clear message to wrongdoers and spreading awareness to the public on the need to be more aware when purchasing foods or eating out.
Part of the campaign is also spreading awareness on this to the public and in schools, he continued to say.
Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced recently that “out of the ministry’s keenness on the security and safety of citizens and to preserve the security and stability of the country, it once again calls upon everyone to avoid congregating in public squares or conducting demonstrations or marches or processions in violation of applicable laws in force”.
In a statement, the Ministry appealed to citizens to cooperate with it in the performance of its functions to maintain security, protect the lives, honor and money, saying it is fully confident that citizens are keen on the security and integrity of this beloved country.
The ministry confirmed it would not flinch from doing its duty in maintaining security and public order in the country.
