Amnesty seen by ‘end of January’ ‘No fines… just go’
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: Residence law violators who are staying in the country illegally will be allowed to leave the country without paying fines, reports Al-Dar daily quoting senior officers from the ministries of Social Affairs and Labor and the Interior Ministry.
However, it has been said the committee which has been formed to look into the Affairs of Expatriate Laborers had discussed during its last meeting at the end of December 2010 conditions for amnesty for residence law violators and the mechanism for their departure from the country. This was praised by senior officers from both ministries — Social Affairs and Labor and the Ministry of Interior.
The sources added the recommendations included allowing residence law violators to leave the country without paying fines or correct their status within the legal framework — renew their residence permits or transfer to other sponsors.
The sources added the committee had submitted the recommendations to the senior leadership in the two ministries. The ministries are said to have approved the recommendations as a ‘gift’ to the violators on the occasion of Kuwait’s National Day golden jubilee celebrations.
The sources added a decision is expected to be taken by the end of this month.
