Rationalize water, power usage ‘Solution to growing demand does not lie in establishment of new stations’

DUBAI, Jan 25, (KUNA): The solution to the problem of the steadily growing demand for electricity and water in Kuwait does not lie in the establishment of new power and water stations but in promoting a societal culture of rationalizing consumption of both, head of the Public Relations and Media Depart-ment at the Kuwaiti Electricity and Water Ministry Badr Al-Rubiah told KUNA at his ministry’s pavilion at the Dubai-based Global Village exhibition. He noted that his ministry focus in this exhibition are on two issues, rationalizing water and electricity consumption and promoting its new projects.
Al-Rubiah pointed out that his ministry has paid attention to promoting the culture of rationalizing usage of resources, adding campaigns have been launched to instill this value in the minds of Kuwaitis particularly children through the use of tales, drawings and competitions.
These campaigns are not new, but date back to 1980s and have been organized over the year mainly in schools, he said, noting that similar campaigns were held in different government establishments and ministries. The Kuwaiti official said the campaigns had proved successful, thanks to people’s cooperation. On the other hand, Al-Rubiah revealed that his ministry had prepared plans for implementing a number of water and electricity projects in the coming period. The Electricity and Water Ministry joined the exhibition on January 20 and would leave on Jan 31.
The Kuwait pavilion at the Global Village, which opened on Nov 10, 2010 and runs up to Feb 28, 2011, is composed of a number of partitions showing samples of Kuwait’s cultural life and businesses.
A number of government institutions, including the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Higher Institution for Musical Arts and the Kuwait Formative Art Society are part of the pavilion.
