Amnesty best solution to runaway maids Several housed in embassies: official
KUWAIT CITY, March 10: The Amiri amnesty to residence law violators has provided the best solution to the problem of domestic servants currently housed in various embassies, Al-Seyassah daily quoted Director of the Domestic Maids Department Brigadier Abdullah Ewad Al-Ali as saying.
Speaking at a press conference, Al-Ali said 380 maids are housed at the Sri Lankan embassy and 250 in Philippine embassy. Also, 160 Nepalese and 194 Indonesian maids are awaiting repatriation. In addition to those who have expired residence or visit visas, maids with absence problem can also benefit from the amnesty. He said maids would be deported after checking the fingerprints, and called on sponsors to do their part by not housing any maid with crime or legal case against her.
The amnesty started on March 1 and will end on June 30.
