KUWAIT CITY, May 15, (KUNA): The operating mechanism of the Meshref sewage recycling station has been checked and the facility will be ready to operate soon, said an official here Sunday.
Head Engineer of the Mershref station project Ali Abu Albanat said during an inspection visit of the facility that everything had been checked to ensure that the station was ready for operation, adding that the official re-opening of the station, which was supposed to occur Sunday, was postponed to ensure everything was intact.
He noted that a KD 23 million budget was allocated to tackle the previous problem that had occurred at the station.
Talking about the environmental impact of the incident, Abu Albanat affirmed that problems such as dealing with the sewage water at the station was taken care of by making sure that such water was treated before released into the sea to prevent pollution.
American Advisor for the Meshref station Gary Miller indicated that sanitation station had a modern underground pipe-line system that provided an alternative to the traditional network on the surface.
He stressed that it was important to train contractors and maintenance crews to deal with any future problems that might occur.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) will start implementing the ‘RO’ project in Shuwaikh station to increase distilled water production to 30 millions imperial gallons daily, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources said this is a unique project that will be executed through the use of the most advanced technology to increase water production in the country and meet the demand of the growing population.
Sources confirmed the ministry is keen on increasing water production in Kuwait by 75%, from 400 million to 700 million gallons per day, through the implementation of several projects in the next five years.
