Drinking water in Kuwait clean ‘Bromate within limits’

KUWAIT CITY, June 10, (KUNA): The Ministry of Electricity and Water, Ministry of Health and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research announced Thursday that Kuwait’s drinking water was clean and of high quality.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Electricity and Water said the three bodies have taken samples from production, mixing and storage stations as well as water network and analyzed them in their respective laboratories.
The analyses showed that concentration of bromate, a chemical compounded suspected of human carcinogen, was within the limit set by the Kuwaiti and international specialized bodies. It was less than 10 parts per billion, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the number of breast cancer patients in different parts of the world, including Kuwait, has been increasing at an alarming rate, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Dr Ibtisama Al-Owaidi.
Al-Owaidi made the statement in a seminar organized recently by the Kuwait Journalists Association to increase public awareness on the importance of the early detection of breast cancer.
Affirming that breast cancer is widespread among women across the world, Al-Owaidi explained the disease can be hereditary and women who do not give birth until they reach 30 are prone to it.  She also enumerated other triggering factors like early puberty but studies on the actual causes of the disease are still inconclusive.
Emphasizing the importance of early detection, Al-Owaidi pointed out the chance of full recovery is high, about 90 percent, if the disease is diagnosed in the early stages.
In another development, the The Parliamentary Committee on Health, and Social Affairs and Labor has completed the preliminary report on overseas medical treatment and forwarded the number of workers in the Ministries of Interior, Health, and Defense to the Public Prosecution, reports Al-Anba daily.
The report recommended the implementation of specific laws on the health committees and called for citizens to submit applications in-person for oversees treatment, without the help of an agent or lawmaker.
Meanwhile, Al-Seyassah reported that MP Mubarak Al-Khurainej has proposed that every citizen must be allowed to receive treatment in any hospital or clinic, regardless of their residential address.
He maintained that some areas have several specialized hospitals and clinics while others have only one, creating congestion and difficulty for the citizens and residents. He said the best way to resolve the issue is removal of the residence clause.
In other news, Supervisor of Health Services and Counseling at the Blood Bank Dr Rena Al-Abdul-Razaq announced the commencement of an awareness campaign on blood donation under the slogan “paint the world red”.
In a press release, she said the campaign marks World Blood Donation Day. He pointed out that the program will go a long way to draw donor attention this summer when few people remain in the country. She announced that the campaign will start on June 16 in Abraj area and the Avenues by June 18.
