Two Kuwaitis held for trading in, smuggling firearms, ammo
KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Police have arrested two Kuwaitis - a youth and a lieutenant in the Kuwait army - and are looking for a third compatriot for smuggling and trading in firearms and ammunition, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The traders reportedly charged a sum ranging between KD 500 and KD 1,000 for the firearms.
Sources said police came across an Internet site on which a Kuwaiti youth was offering to sell a pistol. Subsequently, police set up a trap and arrested the youth while selling the pistol to a police agent.
During interrogation, the youth said he bought the pistol from an army officer. Police then put the officer under surveillance, raided his house and seized 20 firearms including air gun, two-barrel air guns, pistols and ammunition for Kalashnikov rifles from the place. The army officer, during interrogation, said his father used to smuggle the firearms from a GCC country. Police are looking for the father.
Al-Rai daily gave a different account, saying State Security men arrested two military men - an officer and a sergeant major - for dealing in weapons, including hand grenades and Kalashnikov rifles. The daily added that the father of the officer is still at large.
