100 expats held for residence violation

KUWAIT CITY, July 15: In one week following the end of the amnesty period personnel from the General Department for Immigration Investigation are said to have arrested more than 100 expatriates — men and women — for violating residence and work permit laws, reports Alam Alyawm daily.
All those arrested have been referred to the Deportation Center. According to a security source, the Director-General of the Department, Major-General Abdullah Al-Rashid has stressed on the need to launch such campaigns.
To this effect, the official said, security centers have been established in Hawalli and Farwaniya governorates which are in charge of initiating surprise campaigns.

The source added the campaign which lasted from Saturday to Thursday arrested expatriates from various nationals. The source said these people will be deported from the country and will not be permitted to return because they have taken the advantage to leave the country during the amnesty period.
Sources closed to Al-Rashid said the campaign will involve all governorates without exception and personnel will work around-the-clock because according to statistics there are still 83,000 illegal residents who have not taken advantage of the amnesty period.
