KUWAIT CITY, July 23: The ban on shrimp fishing inside Kuwait’s territorial waters will not be lifted before the stipulated timeline of Sept 1, reports Al-Rai daily. This came in response to rumors which said the ban may be lifted on Aug 1, 2011, to coincide with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

The decision has been taken by the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources after consultations with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research. The reasons cited for continuing the ban are the ‘weak’ available reserves and low numbers of shrimp populations in Kuwait’s regional waters.
