Activist warns govt on ‘crackdown’ Abu Khosah condemns decision to form panel on protests

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: Political activist Ayed Abu Khosah has warned the government on clamping down on the activities of the workers syndicates, as regards the series of protests and strikes across the country through which they are agitating salary increments and improved working conditions, reports Alam Al-Yawm daily.
Abu Khosah affirmed that the Constitution guarantees the right for workers to express their desire through mediums they find appropriate. He condemned the recent decision of the Council of Ministers to set up a committee headed by the interior minister to deal with protests, with the help of some workers outside the country. He noted the government is oblivious of dent on the country’s image both within and outside the country, particularly with the involvement of military forces to suppress protests.
He is of the view that the government slacked in dealing with the protests and failed woefully to manage the crisis. He also said the government didn’t consider the National Assembly’s demand to review the aspect of wages and job titles of the state employees. He urged the workers federation to take a unified stance against inadequacies of the government because the latter doesn’t appreciate the value of workers who contribute immensely to building the country.
