Rotten meat saga scares consumers Chicken, meat sales go down

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11: The series of raids over the last nine months on stores and shops selling rotten meat has scared people and has in some ways, led to reduction in sale of chicken and meat, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Sales of frozen meat were more affected as some people earlier preferred frozen meat to fresh meat due to the former’s lower price. A consumer, Ali Al-Dhafeeri, said he only buys live sheep from the market and personally attends the purchase of live chicken as he has lost confidence in frozen meat sold in the local market. Another consumer, Adel Arrasheedi, narrated the tragic story of his two sons who were struck with kidney failure in 2009 and 2010. His sons’ physicians attributed their cases to the possibility of consuming rotten foods like meat and chicken.

Meanwhile, the owner of a major company specializing in importing meat from India and China said he only imports products of high quality and added that small companies which have entered the market import the worst Indian meat.
