‘PP orders to freeze KD1.317m from Al-Otaibi’s NBK account’ Huraiti condemns call for dissolution of parliament

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 5: The Public Prosecution has ord-ered to freeze KD 1.317 million belonging to MP Sa’adoun Hammad Al-Otaibi from his National Bank of Kuwait account, reports Al-Kuwaitiah daily quo-ting knowledgeable sources.
The sources added an Egyptian businessman sold 12,550 million shares of a company to the MP and the latter paid him through two cheques. However, when the Egyptian went to the bank to collect the money, the bank informed him the money cannot be released upon orders from the Public Prosecution.
The Egyptian added the transaction between him and Al-Otaibi took place last October and the deal was approved by the KSE.
Meanwhile, the Al-Shahed daily said MP Musallam Al-Barrak is accusing Al-Otaibi of receiving bribes and has promised to produce documents which he claims he has in his possession to prove his point.
Al-Otaibi said the lawmaker received KD 50,000 from the former prime minister Sheikh Nasser.
Al-Otaibi also said the Prime Minister of Qatar has transferred 200 million Qatari riyals into the bank account of a lawmaker prior to parliamentary interpellations. He did not give the exact date of interpellations.
Meanwhile, MP Hussein Al-Huraiti has condemned the opposition lawmakers’ call for dissolution of the parliament, saying he is against the idea because the files of foreign remittance and bribes granted to MPs will be opened over the next few days, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Al-Huraiti called on those who spread rumors about the bank balances of MPs to present evidence to the public prosecution. He also warned that he will sue those who try to tarnish his reputation and that of his family.
In the meantime, MP Khalid Al-Adwa has called for the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to investigate the foreign remittances case, reports Al-Shahed daily.
He added that if reports that a Kuwaiti lawmaker received bribe worth 200 million riyals from the Qatari prime minister are true, “we wonder what Qatar wants from us?”
Stating that Qatar had intervened in the internal affairs of other Arab countries, Al-Adwa asked “what is Qatar trying to achieve by intervening in our internal affairs?”
Meanwhile, MP Mikhled Al-Azmi has demanded that bank accounts of all MPs inside and outside Kuwait be investigated and their bank balances revealed, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Al-Azmi also wondered why his colleagues were not speaking up over reports that a lawmaker received 200 million riyals from abroad.
