2 top MoI officials quit to run in polls Candidate Salwa creates website
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 10: Director of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Security Directorate Brigadier Mohammed Tana Al-Enzi and Farwaniya Traffic Department Director Brigadier Mohammed Rashid Al-Mai’e submitted their resignation on Thursday because they intend to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the fourth and fifth constituencies respectively, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting security sources.
Sources disclosed the two senior officials are among the most efficient personnel at the Ministry of Interior and they worked in a number of sectors in the ministry.
On the other hand, Al-Rai daily has reported that Ministry Undersecretary Major General Ghazi Al-Omar has instructed the General Criminal Investigation Department to be alert and deal strictly with election violations, particularly the organization of primaries and buying of votes.
Sources said the department will coordinate closely with the Public Prosecution to take the necessary measures against those proven to have violated the Election Law.
Sources added the undersecretary’s directive includes the need for round-the-clock operations to secure the electoral process and strictly enforce the law on everyone.
Distance
Meanwhile, political activist Mohammad Al-Hajeri has announced that he will run in the 2012 parliamentary elections from the Fifth Constituency, reports Al-Anba daily.
Al-Hajeri has decided to distance himself from elections that are prohibited by the Kuwaiti constitution, according to a statement he released to the local newspapers.
In the meantime, parliamentary candidate Salwa Al-Mutairi has created a website ar.justin.tv/tvsalwa to communicate with electorate from 8:00pm to 9:00pm daily, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Mutairi claims to be first in the world to have initiated a website to communicate directly with electorate.
Members
Meanwhile, seven Kuwait Municipal Council members, including a woman, have allegedly started preparing for the National Assembly elections through tribal consultations, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources said the dissolution of the legislature means a two-month break for the council, so any of its members who intend to contest the elections does not need to resign. Sources disclosed many former council members ran in the previous elections like Askar Al-Enezi and Abdulaziz Al-Shayeji.
In the meantime, economy activist Safaa Al-Hashim announced his intention to run in the coming parliamentary election after consulting with experts in that regard, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
A source was quoted as saying Hashim will make a decision next week and determine the constituency she will represent, the daily noted.
