‘Take legal measures against center selling unfit food items’ Commercial stores urged to abide by licensed spaces
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22, (Agencies): Assistant Director General for Service Affairs at Kuwait Municipality, Moham-mad Al-Otaibi, has asked the director general to take necessary legal procedures against one of the biggest food centers in the country as it is allegedly continuing to sell foodstuff unfit for human consumption, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Otaibi said Article 31 of ministerial decision No. 301/2009 grants the director general power to shut temporarily any shop that violates the items of the decision. The decision also allows the cancellation of the health license of the shop if it repeats the violation. Al-Otaibi said the said food center had been selling spoilt frozen meat, orange juice, tropical fruits, strawberry juice as well as chocolates which passed their expiry date.
Municipality’s Director General Engineer Ahmad Al-Subeeh called on owners of shops, restaurants and cafes to abide by the restricted spaces according to the municipality licenses.
Any violations in annexing extra spaces will be considered as a violation of the regulations and systems, stressing that the municipality will close all shops breaking the rules, Al-Subeeh said.
Head of Hawalli Munici-pality Emergency Team Riyadh Al-Rabe’ announced closing 16 shops in Hawalli and Al-Salmiyah areas, following visits of municipality inspection teams.
Violations included adding unlicensed spaces, and operating shops, before receiving the municipality approval, he added.
The campaign included a number of cafes, restaurant, call centers, clothing and food catering shops, he said.
Shops receiving former orders of administrative closure, were considered as violating the law, he mentioned.
Meanwhile, the Assistant General Manager for Development and Information in Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Manfouhi said the municipality’s information systems administration activated an electronic system to issue temporary permits for electoral premises of parliamentary candidates, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Manfouhi said applications for premises will be received at the municipality’s branches in all governorates. He added that locations of those premises will be provided to citizens through Kuwait’s electronic guide published on the Web.
