‘Kuwaiti woman allegedly funding activities of Baath party members’ Iraq gathers info during closed-door interrogations of some arrested persons

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: A female Kuwaiti activist, whose identity has not been disclosed, is allegedly linked to funding activities carried out by members of the Baath party in southern Iraq, particularly in Basra, reports Al-Dar daily.
According to an unidentified Iraqi security source, the information was gathered during closed-door interrogations with some people who were arrested for alleged membership in the dreaded Baath party and detained in the Interior Ministry prisons supervised by Office of the Commander of the Armed Forces.
The interrogations were carried out in secret by special detectives and senior officials in the Office of the Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki.
The detectives are said to have so far interrogated about 58 percent of the persons arrested in connection with planning and execution of violent activities to destabilize the country since the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
The source said the suspects have confessed that people from neighboring countries were funding the now defunct Baath party.
The source expressed shock that some charity organizations, Islamic political movements and some organizations claiming to be civil society groups in neighboring countries, precisely Kuwait, were much involved in the activities.
One of the arrested persons said the Kuwaiti woman supported them financially with huge amounts in Faw District of Basra, because of her strong ties with the previous Baath government.
“The woman is said to have transferred US dollars in $100 bills, which the senior party members have shared among themselves, the source quoted the Baath party detainee as saying.
