Ex-MP Al-Saqr ‘refutes’ role in ‘bank deposits’ scandal ‘Need to reject all forms of fanaticism’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Former MP and second constituency candidate Moha-mmad Al-Saqr refuted his involvement in the “multimillion deposits’’ scandal, and considers the allegation as ‘conspiracy theory’ aimed at distorting his reputation, reports Al-Rai daily.
In an interview on Al-Rai TV program “Nation 2012”, Al-Saqr maintained that street protest is a normal practice and explained a similar event had taken place, while citizens were pressing for approval of women rights and the five constituency system.
The former MP noted that his return to the political arena resulted from youth movements the country is observing for the first time. He stressed that the incident leading to dissolution of the National Assembly was imminent; even though he does not support the way it was conducted.
He affirmed ambition to become the head of the National Assembly if elected as MP, and added “it’s the right of all elected MPs”.
Meanwhile, Al-Saqr described the approved salary increment as insane and a time bomb, due to recent regional conflicts and Kuwait’s dependence on oil revenue that might be affected in the wake of low oil price.
He reiterated constitutional amendments should have taken place way back 1968, according to memorandum that stipulates modification after 5 years of its implementation.
Harmony
He also said “the issue is not imperative at the moment due to lack of political harmony, even though the country needs constitutional amendment”.
Al-Saqr is of the view that recent calls to put the ruling family’s affair in order are no longer necessary because HH the Amir and the Crown Prince are in good health, and they are capable of ruling the State of Kuwait.
Meanwhile, development and social security in Kuwait are possible only through the protection of national unity and rejection of all forms of fanaticism and discrimination, says former MP and candidate from the Fifth Constituency Dr Mohammad Hadi Al-Huwailah.
In a recent press statement, Al-Huwailah reiterated his promise not to allow anyone to violate the sanctity of Kuwait, considering the country as the only source of national peace.
Urging the next National Assembly to adopt proper plans laid down by experts and intellectuals, Al-Huwailah believes these people will put national interest and the future of the country on top of their priority lists. He also stressed the importance of preserving the Islamic cultural identity and the authorities should not tolerate those trying to violate this identity. “Contrary to those calling for separation of religion and state, we think Islam is both, so we will work towards consolidating this fact,” he added.
Al-Huwailah suggested the best way to improve the society is for Kuwait to strictly adhere to the Islamic principles to ensure the nation remains united, strengthen the community and achieve development goals. He explained he had previously insisted on nominating himself for membership of the Committee for Studying Negative Phenomena due to his commitment to find lasting solutions to moral problems, particularly the spread of activities against the teachings of Islam.
