How cold was it? - Siberian high

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21, (Agencies): Since late Friday, the country has been experiencing an uncommon cold weather as temperature dropped below freezing in many areas, Kuwait Meteorology Center said on Saturday.
According to the Meteorology website, the Cold weather was due to an active north western winds affected by the Siberian High on the region.
The lowest temperatures recorded in the country were (-3) degrees Celsius in West Salmi, (-2) degrees in north Abdaly, and (3) degrees at Kuwait International Airport.
Temperature reached below freezing in desert areas, the center noted.
A meteorologist, at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Khalid Al-Shuaibi played down on rumor that Kuwait may possibly observe sandstorm soon, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Shuaibi explained that people have overblown the issue, but the truth is that cold air mass entering Kuwait recently was accompanied by wind activity. It however, didn’t reach the level of sandstorm, he added, indicating the wind speed at residential areas ranges from 30-35 km/h and measures 40 km/h in the open areas, and that could only provoke dust and low temperature measuring about 2 degrees Celsius.
