45 people killed in Feb accidents Life disrupted: Al-Hashash
KUWAIT CITY, March 3: Interim Director of Public Relations and Moral Guidance, Colonel Adel Al-Hashash said in a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior that the traffic situation in Kuwait is affecting the safety of the society and it is necessary to deal with this and stop bloodshed on the roads using a scientific approach.
He disclosed that the statistics of February 2012 provided by the Criminal Evidence Department revealed that 45 people including 24 Kuwaiti citizens lost their lives because of traffic accidents.
Al-Hashash called on drivers to follow the rules issued by the Traffic Public Department for their safety which includes periodically maintaining their cars to avoid sudden breakdowns on roads, checking the efficiency of the tyres and brakes of the vehicles, and so on.
He urged them to also comply with the traffic guidance instructions indicated on the roads and to avoid using mobile phones while driving.
Meanwhile, officers of the General Traffic Department (GTD) carried out a series of inspection campaigns across the country over the weekend which resulted in the issuance of 7,470 citations to traffic law violators and impounding of 410 vehicles, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The officers issued 1,482 citations and impounded 29 vehicles in the Capital governorate; 950 citations and 50 vehicles in Farwaniya; 1,793 citations and 23 vehicles in Hawalli; 586 citations and 5 vehicles in Ahmadi; 185 citations and 3 vehicles in Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and 951 citations and 15 vehicles in Jahra.
Officers of the General Operations Sector issued 1,205 citations and seized 278 vehicles, while officers at the Kuwait International Airport issued 318 citations and impounded seven vehicles.
