Woman granted her rights ‘Bedoun’ hearing today

KUWAIT CITY, March 3: The Cassation Court, presided over by Judge Ahmad Al-Amayem, has given a young Kuwaiti woman the right to obtain and renew her civil ID, passport, birth certificate and nationality card.
The court has also instructed the woman’s father to shoulder the legal expenses and attorney’s fees.
Meanwhile, lawyer for the woman, Attorney Hesham Al-Fahd considers the verdict the first of its kind in Kuwait, pointing out the laws of the country do not allow young Kuwaiti women to personally complete the abovementioned transactions without the permission of the husband, father or guardian.
Al-Fahd revealed her client is 20 years old and divorced but her father receives the alimony on her behalf. However, the father had allegedly beaten her repeatedly and had kicked her out of the house without giving her the alimony, so she filed a case against her father.

Bedoun hearing today: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Wael Al-Atiqi will attend Sunday the case of three Bedouns out of the 17 accused for participating in an illegal demonstration in Sulaibiya. The prosecutor accused 15 people for aggressively attacking the security men who were trying to disperse the protestors during the demonstration. They had refused to respond to the orders of the authorities to end the demonstration and caused public property damage worth KD 37,000.
They were also accused of participating in an illegal public gathering with intentions for causing trouble.
In addition to the 15 accused of direct attack, two others have been accused for aiding the protestors, using Internet as a mean to incite people for committing crimes.
