MP suggests setting up of ‘human rights dept’ in MoI Al-Waalan denies intervening to seek his son’s release
KUWAIT CITY, March 9: MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei has suggested the establishment of ‘human rights department’ in the Ministry of Interior, which will be directly linked to the office of the minister, reports Al-Anba daily.
Due to the important role played by the human rights organizations at both the local and international levels Dr Al-Tabtabaei has suggested that the ‘human rights department’ in the Ministry of Interior will help improve the image of Kuwait with regards to human rights.
He said the department should be responsible for:
- Receiving requests and complaints with regards to human rights issues from both the citizens and expatriates.
- Giving opinion on issues of deportation before them being referred to the minister, to see if they are in line with deportation laws.
- To respond to local and international reports on human rights conditions, as it will benefit from them in improving human rights status in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, over the past two years, current National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun has been requesting former minister of communications Mohammad Al-Basiri to execute a plan to transfer ownership of mobile phone numbers to the three mobile operators, reports Al-Mustaqbal daily.
This action has been delayed due to many reasons, including a change in ministers three times in the past one and a half years. Each minister had his own priorities and neglected to give the operator an opportunity to rearrange its position within the market. The economists have demanded the execution of this project at the earliest.
In addition, some citizens have accused the operators of exploiting their need for numbers without providing any additional services.
In the meantime, a group of youths has submitted practical recommendations to HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah in an effort to activate the popular participation in the process of development, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Governmental sources said the suggestions clarified the syllabus of the kindergarten stage is unsuitable; in addition, the role of the sociologist is absent in the intermediate stage.
The group demanded to increase the seats for students in the university and closure of trivial specifications and increasing the number of scholarships and solving the shortage of professors.
Concerning sports and entertainment, the group suggested privatizing the clubs and converting them into entrainment centers.
The sources said the suggestions put forward by the youth groups to the Cabinet have been referred to the concerned ministerial committees for discussion.
