$1m fake cigarettes seized
KUWAIT CITY, March 11: Inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry foiled a major smuggling attempt and confiscated a shipment of counterfeit cigarettes estimated to be worth one million dollars, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Reliable sources in the ministry said the consignment belonged to two women – an Arab and an Iranian. Inspectors, in cooperation with securitymen, conducted a buy-bust operation and confiscated the cigarettes.
Car thieves caught: Police have arrested two Bedouns for stealing a car belonging to an elderly Kuwaiti woman about a month ago, reports Al-Anba daily.
The theft occurred when the woman’s Indian driver had parked the car outside a shop in Salmiya and went inside.
Recently, when the woman happened to be in a cooperative society in Abdali, the driver saw the stolen car in the parking lot and told the woman. The woman, who is in her 80s, then approached the two men who were in her car and started shouting at them, but they drove off quickly. She then called her sons who searched the entire area and managed to corner the thieves. Subsequently, they called police who rushed to the scene and arrested the thieves. Police also recovered a large number of knives and sharp tools from the car.
