‘Manpower authority’ to be approved soon’ Social Affairs seek salary hike for employees
KUWAIT CITY, March 30: The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Ahmad Al-Rujeib says he expects the law of the Public Authority for Manpower to be approved within the next two months.
He stressed this authority will be a comprehensive umbrella which will be in charge of organizing all labor issues in Kuwait, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The draft law, he said, is welcomed by the lawmakers. He affirmed the ministry has several projects to ease the labor procedures such as the electronic website of the ministry which will be launched on Monday.
Speaking about the ban imposed on Bangladeshi expatriates from entering Kuwait, Al-Rujeib quipped, saying there are about 200,000 Bangladeshis working in Kuwait.
He disclosed the ministry is studying the issue from all aspects before opening the door for more Bangladeshis to come and work in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Al-Shahed newspaper has received the proposal of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor’s Workers Union for increase in the salaries of ministry employees, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The Vice-President of the Association Yahya Al-Dawsari said the union submitted a private notice to the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Lt General Ahmad Al-Rujeib to submit to the Ministers Council and the Civil Service Commission.
Al-Dawsari revealed the contents of the notice which included demand for an increase in monthly salary between KD 1500 to KD 2500 for the Ministry’s Undersecretary, between KD 500 and KD 1000 for officials, and between KD 670 to KD 1500 for assistant undersecretaries. He also said the notice contained a suggestion to grant an incentive for supervisory office holders.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Undersecretary Mohammad Al-Kandari has announced his plan to visit the labor departments in various governorates soon to personally look into the quality of services offered to the public, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In a recent press statement, Al-Kandari said he will coordinate with the assistant undersecretary for labor affairs to facilitate procedures for the visit.
In another development, Al-Kandari disclosed the ministry will participate in the Arab Labor Conference from April 1-8 in Cairo, Egypt. He explained this is an annual international conference for the labor ministers and representatives of the chambers of commerce and industry, trade unions and governments.
Al-Kandari added the ministry will also join the Third GCC Social Work Festival from April 8-14 in Kuwait. He said this is an event for labor ministers of GCC nations.
