Harsh penalties for food safety violators proposed by council Municipal Council approves amendments

KUWAIT CITY, April 2: The Kuwait Municipal Council has approved the proposed amendments to certain articles of the food safety regulations, while the KD 1,000 fine remains in effect.

In its meeting Monday, the council discussed the proposal, during which some members called for imposing harsher penalties on those proven to be involved in the distribution of spoilt food products, which endanger public health.

The council repealed Article 34 and approved the recommended amendments to articles 35-41. The council also approved the proposal of Ashwaq Al-Mudhaf to rename North Sulaibikhat after the late HH Sheikh Saud Nasser Al-Sabah.  On the other hand, Al-Mudhaf and Jenan Bushahari presented a request for the establishment of a press center at the council. They argued the center is necessary due to the nature of decisions being taken by the council, in addition to the committee meetings and reviews from members.
They also suggested the council should issue identification cards to journalists who cover its activities.
