Barrak testifies on money transfers Al-Qallaf plans to grill info-minister again

KUWAIT CITY, April 11: MP Musallam Al-Barrak gave his testimony Monday at the Ministerial Court on the suspicious financial transfers by the previous Cabinet. The court, which is probing the case, will summon former Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah to face the charges made against him by Al-Barrak, according to the MP.

In a press statement, Al-Barrak said he spent four hours at the tribunal and requested another session to provide all the documents that prove there were violations of public funds.

“I explained that there is no truth to the defense of the former Prime Minister, who said the transfers where done by instruction from HH the Amir and Cabinet decisions. The orders for the transfers were given orally and directly by the former PM, to three individuals in particular in Geneva, London and New York,” he stated.
Al-Barrak added that if the monetary transfers were for political or general interest purposes; “then why did former acting Foreign Minister Ali Al-Rashid claim they were returned to the public treasury?”

Al-Barrak said he doubted the funds were returned. “According to my information, KD 77 million was transferred. This means (the former PM) used the public fund as if it was his personal money. Even if he returned the funds, this does not deny that a crime was committed,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, MP Hussein Al-Qallaf announced on Wednesday that he will submit another grilling request against Information Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. “This time I will submit a no-confidence motion as I now have proof that media outlets were involved in money laundering,” he stated.
