‘Domestics bill within 20 days’ ‘Kuwait not chided in rights violation’
KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The International Labor Organization (ILO) representative in Kuwait Thabet Al-Haroun was recently quoted as saying the draft law concerning domestic workers will be finalized within the next 20 days and referred to the National Assembly for discussion, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
He was speaking during a seminar Wednesday which was organized by the Kuwait Society for Protecting Public Funds.
He disclosed many countries are refusing to send domestic workers to Kuwait because the country lacks appropriate laws to protect this denomination of workers.
However, he added, after the law is approved the fear of many countries will vanish.
He refuted allegations that Kuwait was recently blacklisted among countries which violate human rights, Al-Haroun pointed out the ILO has registered only some cases against Kuwait; nevertheless, the Kuwaiti government has spared no efforts to correct past mistakes.
On the other hand, the employees of Public Authority for Disability demonstrated Thursday morning to protest the delay in cashing their salaries as well as the arrogant behavior of the director Dr Jassem Al-Tammar.
The protesters confirmed they will continue to demonstrate until their problems are solved. They complained of humiliation by senior officials and the visitors as well.
Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Ahmad Al-Rujeib has refuted rumors on the cancellation of the sponsorship system after three months, reports Al-Rai daily. In a recent press statement, Al-Rujeib explained the ministry’s experts are still studying the decision and they have yet to specify a date for the implementation.
