KUWAIT CITY, May 7: Hankook B stayed on the winning trail this week to again hold off Matchpoint and retain the lead in the 24th FBAA Conference 7th Toyo Tires Cup Tournament at the Fahaheel Sports Complex, Friday.
With both the teams winning six and losing two of their eight clashes, it was 242 points from 85 match victories that gave Hankook B the top spot as Matchpoint could only compile 236 points from 80 match triumphs.
The other teams taking part in the competition are Hankook A, Prince, AMEC, Worley Parsons, McDonalds and Ali Abdulwahab & Sons.
Hankook A are currently in third place with Prince 4th, AMEC 5th, McDonalds 6th, Ali Abdulwahab & Sons 7th and Worley Parsons in 8th place.
With a lot of matches still to be played, the competition is so close that nearly all the teams still have a chance, at least mathematically, to take the crown.
Each team plays the other over five different categories : Category 1-Men’s A; Category 2 -Higher B & Higher C ; Category 3 -Higher C & Lower C ; Category 4-Lower C1 and Ladies A ; and Category 5——Lower C2 & Ladies A/B.
Worley Parsons vs Abdulwahab
In Category 1, Abdulwahab pulled off a landslide victory driven by Joshua and Sunil who edged Joenel and Arnel 19-18, 7-15, 16-14 while Sunil and Anthony thumped Arnel and Jerry 15-13, 15-6 and the pair of Joshua and Anthony outlasted Joenel and Jerry 12-15, 15-13, 15-3.
Worley Parsons generated a 3-1 win and collected 10-2 points in Category 2 when Maricel and Jonathan tamed Roy and Jemmo 15-8, 15-6 while Rio and Maricel overwhelmed Enrique and Roy 15-6, 15-9 and the tandem of Ronilo and Jonathan hammered JR and Jemmo 15-9, 15-7. Abdulwahab scored through Enrique and JR who beat Rio and Ronilo 15-5, 13-15, 15-13.
In Category 3, Abdulwahab collected a total victory through Joey and Modesto who edged Sonny and Keesha 15-10, 5-15, 15-7 while Martin and Sang outlasted Marvin and Jovie 8-15, 15-9, 15-7, Joey and Martin brushed aside Sonny and Marvin 15-9, 15-10 and the pair of Modesto and Sang beat Keesha and Jovie 9-15, 15-8, 15-11.
Worley Parsons completed a landslide victory in Category 4 as Beng and Cedric outlasted Gerry and Robert 15-5, 14-16, 15-7 while Cedric and Arthur overcame Robert and Kristine 6-15, 15-12, 18-16 and Beng with Arthur overpowered Gerry and Kristine 15-13, 15-3.
In Category 5, Abdulwahab achieved a 2-1 win and 6-3 points when Cornelia and Mike beat Marilou and Sheryl 15-13, 14-16, 19-18 while Cornelia and Jade thumped Marilou and Bien 15-10, 15-9. Worley Parsons scored through Sheryl and Bien who outlasted Mike and Jade 15-12, 12-15, 15-11.
Prince vs Hankook Group A
In Category 1, Prince gained a 2-1 win and 6-3 points as Gerry and Victor overcame Edd and Jeb 15-10, 15-13 while Sherwin and Victor tamed Allan and Jeb 15-11, 15-13. Hankook A scored through Allan and Edd when they brushed aside Sherwin and Gerry 15-7, 15-10.
Hankook A put together a landslide victory in Category 2 after Sang and Glenn overwhelmed Arj and Cheryl 15-7, 15-10 while Tim and Romeo edged M. Sha and Jeanette 15-11, 11-15, 15-12, Sang and Tim overcame Arj and M. Sha 15-6, 16-14 and the pair of Glenn and Romeo beat Cheryl and Jeanette 19-17, 15-12.
Category 3 saw Prince complete a 3-1 win and 7-5 points when Lankey and Eric outlasted Benjie and Rico 15-13, 12-15, 17-15 while Lankey and Freddie edged Benjie and Shy 9-15, 16-14, 15-11 and Eric with Jellica thrashed Rico and Dodong 15-1, 15-7. Shy and Dodong scored for Hankook A when they crushed Freddie and Jellica 15-11, 15-8.
In Category 4, Hankook acquired a 2-1 win and 5-4 points through Gay and Warlito who overpowered Des and Yolly 15-7, 15-13 while Jay and Warlito edged Danilo and Yolly 15-11, 13-15, 15-8. Prince scored through Danilo and Des as they overcame Jay and Gay 15-7, 17-15. Hankook A pulled off a landslide victory in Category 5 through Farhad and Welmyn who beat Emz and Tanette 18-16, 13-15, 15-10 while Welmyn and Yvonne edged Tanette and Riyadh 11-15, 15-12, 15-11 and the pair of Farhad and Yvonne overcame Emz and Riyadh 16-14, 15-6.
Hankook Group B vs McDonalds
Category 1 saw Hankook B gain a total victory through Albert and Edward who edged Marvin and Philip 5-15, 15-8, 15-9 while Eduard and Norman outlasted Philip and Anthony 19-18, 14-16, 15-12 and Albert with Norman beat Marvin and Anthony 11-15, 15-11, 16-14.
Hankook B completed a 2-1 win in Category 2 but tied on 6 points with their rivals in Category 2 when Ryan and Hans outlasted Gene and Adrian 9-15, 15-9, 16-14 while Mohammed and Lawrence edged Aldreen and Charles 15-10, 13-15, 16-14. McDonalds scored through Adrian and Charles who overcame Hans and Lawrence 16-14, 15-12.
In Category 3, both the teams leveled with 2 wins and Hankook B gathered 7-5 points through Eric and Jojo who beat Danny and Cris 9-15, 15-12, 15-12 while Eric and Mark thumped Danny and Nihar 15-13, 15-9. Mc Donalds bounced back through Nihar and Celso who outlasted Mark and Noel 15-10, 14-16, 15-11 and Cris with Celso edged Jojo and Noel 5-15, 15-12, 15-11.
McDonalds collected a 2-1 win and 5-4 points in Category 4 after Elsie and Jeanette outclassed Michael and Felina 15-12, 15-5 while Elsie and Ayla beat Michael and Daisy 11-15, 15-10, 15-11. Hankook B scored through Felina and Daisy who overpowered Jeanette and Ayla 15-12, 15-12.
In Category 5, McDonalds claimed a 2-1 win and 5-4 points through Cherry and Holden who brushed aside Marivic and Psyche 15-11, 15-11 while Cherry and Nancy edged Marivic and Edelyn 15-11, 14-16, 15-12. Hankook B scored through Psyche and Edelyn who won by default against Holden and Nancy.
AMEC vs Matchpoint
AMEC gained a 2-1 win and 6-3 points in Category 1 after Jon-Jon and Jong edged Joms and Bon 15-9, 15-17, 15-9 while Jong and Marlad tamed Bon and Anthony 15-5, 15-10. Matchpoint scored through Joms and Anthony who edged Jon-Jon and Marlad 10-15, 15-12, 15-10.
In Category 2, Matchpoint pulled off a landslide victory driven by James and Alvin who overwhelmed Janette and Roman 15-12, 15-8 while Cesar and Aileen edged Arnie and Lloyed 17-15, 12-15, 15-9, James and Cesar brushed aside Janette and Arnie 15-13, 15-5 and Alvin with Aileen outlasted Roman and Lloyed 15-13, 11-15, 15-11.
Both the teams collected 2 wins each in Category 3 but AMEC scored 7-5 points through Shiraj and Anne who thumped Rico and Sultan 15-8, 15-11 while Anne and Tony hammered Sultan and Cathy 15-10, 15-8. AMEC gathered a 2-1 win and 6-3 points through April and Maureen who outlasted Cecille and Angie 15-12, 14-16, 15-6 while Maureen and Julie outclassed Angie and Shaheer 15-12, 15-13. Matchpoint scored through Cecille and Shaheer who edged April and Julie 15-8, 9-15, 15-11.
