Kuwait to become HQ of Transparency & Honesty Rights team discusses condition of Al-Enzi
KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Chairman of Kuwait Transparency Society Salah Al-Ghazali was recently quoted as saying HH the Amir has agreed to make Kuwait the headquarters of the Arab Transparency and Honesty Organization which was founded on March 29, 2012 in Doha, Qatar, reports Al-Qabas daily.
He added the organization will bolster the principle of transparency, honesty and the wise rule in Arab counties. He indicated members of the organization are Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Tunisia and Libya.
He also said Kuwait was chosen as headquarter for the organization — thanks to democracy in Kuwait and the freedom of the press.
This came during a celebration Thursday to honor the winners of the first five positions in terms of pointers of reform in the government authorities in 2012.
He disclosed the Al-Zakat House got the first position, the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Awkaf and Islamic Affairs came in second position, Kuwait Fire Services Directorate got the third position, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation won the fourth position and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research fifth.
However, Al-Ghazali expressed his sorrow that a number of key government authorities such as the ministries of Interior, Education, Information, Health, Oil and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor were last on the list.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait Society for Human Rights said a delegation headed by president of the Society Khaled Al-Hamidi and treasurer Hamed Al-Gendi as well as director of the society met the Secretary-General of the Arab Organization for Human Rights Alaa Shalabi and other officials, reports Al-Qabas daily.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest situation concerning human rights and the issue of student Abdulaziz Menahi Al-Enzi who has been admitted to the psychiatric hospital in Cairo.
According to the statement, the delegation affirmed the student was subjected to continuous torture and that there has been an official request to open an investigation into the issue.
