MoI to boost ‘cleaning’ campaign against illegals Airport security gears up to handle traffic

KUWAIT CITY, June 8: The undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Major-General Suleiman Al-Fahd issued a circular to all sectors of the ministry to contribute to the summer campaign, reports Al-Rai daily.
In a statement Al-Fahd said the ministry has launched a campaign to clean the country of more than hundreds of thousands of illegal residents who don’t have valid residence permits.

According to the circular, a copy of which has been issued by the daily, the ministry has called on all the departments to exert efforts during the summer because this time of the year most expatriates leave for their countries to spend the summer vacation and this should help the authorities to pay attention to the remaining few and pursue the violators.

The daily added the ministry will seek the participation of all security forces in such campaigns particularly in areas such as the Amghara Scrapyard, Mina Abdullah, Abdali and Wafra farms.
Security sources unveiled Major-General Mahmoud Al-Dousari has been appointed head for security campaigns.

According to the strategy adopted by the ministry, all forces will be mobilized at one point at a specific time. The campaign will be sudden and will come as a surprise.

Raid

During the campaign the security operatives will raid the suspect areas particularly when people retire to their homes for rest.

Persons caught during the campaigns will be deported immediately at the expense of the sponsor.
The sources added according to statistics more than 155,000 people live in the country illegally. This is in addition to 97,000 marginal workers who hold valid residence permits but are jobless.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Anwar Al-Yaseen has said the airport security authorities are fully geared up to handle the traffic congestion at the airport during the summer holiday season which is associated with Ramadan, the Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha holidays.

Major-General Al-Yaseen said this when he chaired the security meeting on Friday. The meeting was attended by directors of security departments, their deputies, heads of units and other senior security officers at the airport.

He envisaged this season as exceptionally busy given the increasing number of travelers, which requires stepping up of efforts and put in place a comprehensive mechanism to overcome anticipated rowdiness within the airport.

He added the Kuwait International Airport is the gateway of civilization for the country and keeping this in mind he said officers should work assiduously to ensure comfort and safety for travelers.

He urged for cooperation and coordination among concerned agencies from the Interior Ministry and support agencies in the aviation sector and the Customs Department.
