Minister duty-bound to track down Iranian sleeper cells ILO lauds Kuwait bid to curb visa trafficking

KUWAIT CITY, June 11: The legal procedures taken recently by Kuwait led to the closure of 90 percent of illegal companies, in addition to controlling the visa traders, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.

Sources said the International Labor Organization (ILO) has applauded the efforts exerted by the country to address the problem, while calling for more measures to eradicate such illegal activities.

Sources added Kuwait has no sponsorship system because the expatriate workers are registered in certain authorities which protect their rights. They pointed out the Private Sector Labor Law issued in 2010 is comprehensive as it includes stipulations on various labor-related problems. They revealed the number of labor complaints registered at the ministry has declined by 50 percent and most of these complaints are isolated cases.

In another development, Al-Seyassah daily has quoted MP Mubarak Al-Wa’alan as saying that the series of security campaigns launched recently against illegal residents in different parts of the country had infuriated the supporters of Iran, since this move had prompted a lawmaker from the First Constituency to call a senior Interior Ministry official and asked the latter not to raid Bneid Al-Gar.

Urging First Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud to order a thorough investigation into the issue, Al-Wa’alan disclosed a grilling request he submitted earlier against former prime minister HH Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Sabah focused on the lopsided population structure in the country, particularly the rising number of Iranian laborers suspected of performing certain roles in due time.

He added the minister is duty-bound to uncover Iranian sleeper cells in the country.

Meanwhile, MP Adel Al-Damkhi has called on the Iranian officials to stop hurling baseless accusations at GCC countries, especially after the emergence of indicators that Iran intends to interfere in the internal affairs of Kuwait and other nations in the region. He wonders why Iran keeps on accusing the GCC states of plotting against it by reducing the price of oil.
