Jail for MP, owner of Scope TV fined Violating Arabic daily stays shut

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The Criminal Court recently sentenced MP Nabil Al-Fadhel to one year in jail with hard labor, and fined Scope TV owner Fajer Al-Saeed and broadcaster Ahmad Al-Fadhli KD 3,000 each for offending Amiri Diwan Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad.
The court also allowed Al-Fadhel to post bail of KD 1,000 for the suspension of the implementation of the one-year imprisonment sentence with hard labor.
Case files indicate Sheikh Nasser Sabah filed two cases — one against the lawmaker and another against Al-Saeed and Al-Fadhli — after the airing of a television program hosted by Al-Fadhli on Scope TV as he felt offended by the statements made by the lawmaker and the broadcaster.
The session was presided over by Judge Hamoud Al-Mutawa.

Daily stays shut: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Hamoud Al-Mutawa, has ruled on a case filed by the Ministry of Information against Al-Shaab Newspaper, ordering to continue the closure of the paper for two weeks in compliance with the instructions of Public Prosecutor Dharar Al-Asousi.
It has been reported the paper applied for a license to publish articles on social affairs but it has violated the regulations through the publication of political news.

Closed for 3 months: The Public Prosecution, represented by the Sentences Enforcement Department, executed the final verdict of a court which ordered an automobile company along Al-Rai Street to be closed for three months.
The executors, led by Mohammad Al-Duaij, carried out the court order based on a case a Kuwaiti man filed against the company after detecting defects in a car he bought from them.
The court charged the company for using a similar method to deceive customers to buy commodities with specifications different from their real composites.

Verdict on June 25: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Adel Al-Huwaidi will issue a verdict over the case filed against a Qatari national for running over the Kuwaiti citizen Ahmad Asad on Monday, June 25.
Reportedly, the Public Prosecution accused the suspect of attempting to murder the victim.
According to sources, quarrel arose between the suspect and victim when the latter poured water on the suspect during the National Day celebrations. Following a mutual fistfight, the suspect attempted to run over the victim with his vehicle.
They revealed that the suspect is still under arrest while the victim was hospitalized, as his injuries were critical.
