MEW to sue defaulters Unpaid bills amount to KD 13 mln

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: The Consumer Affairs Department at Ministry of Electricity and Water has instituted 2900 legal action against defaulting consumers, including 2600 cases against citizens and 300 cases against expatriates and Bedouns until beginning of June, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to an informed source, the unpaid bills amount to KD 13 million out of which KD 4,50,000 is due from expatriates and Bedouns.

He revealed that the Legal Affairs Department is planning to sue another set of defaulting consumers.
He said it is mandatory to collect public funds from these consumers by any possible means especially after they failed to respond to the warnings issued to them by the ministry.

He stressed that the minister Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim is very serious about resolving this issue especially since the consumers owe the ministry approximately KD 300 million.
