8,784 citations issued, 536 vehicles seized in crackdown Traffic police scours 6 governorates

KUWAIT CITY, June 23: General Traffic Department carried out a series of impromptu campaigns across six governorates during the weekend to limit the traffic violations.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior, it was stated that during the traffic campaigns, officers issued 8784 violations and seized 536 vehicles.

In Capital Governorate, traffic officers issued 1768 citations and seized 52 vehicles.

At Farwaniya Governorate, officers issued 1160 violations and seized 35 vehicles.

In Hawally Governorate, officers issued 3043 traffic violations and seized 185 vehicles.

At Ahmadi Governorate, officers issued 1003 violations and seized eight vehicles.

At Mubarak Al-Kabeer, officers issued 428 violations and seized 21 vehicles.

At Jahra Governorate, traffic officers 303 violations and seized 12 vehicles.

Officers from the General Operations Department issued 989 citations and impounded 218 vehicles.

Traffic officers at Kuwait International Airport issued 90 citations and seized five vehicles.

Traffic sources revealed that the General Traffic Department will continue its campaigns round the clock to ensure the safety of the road users and take action against recklessness and traffic rule violators.

Meanwhile, the General Traffic Department, in its continuing efforts to stop violations and the negative phenomenon on public roads has recovered a stolen vehicle, with the help of smart traffic patrolmen attached to the Expressway Division, as their surprise traffic campaigns intensify.

According to an Interior Ministry press release, the officers managed to retrieve the stolen vehicle recently, and necessary procedures were taken against the driver.

In another development, to help reduce traffic congestion on Kuwait’s roads, the General Traffic Department has announced that the diverted intersection of Jahra Road with Jahith Road will be opened Monday morning June 25, 2012.

In a statement, the General Traffic Department says the precautionary road safety measures have been taken with signs directing the diversion, in coordination with the projects supervisory unit at the Ministry of Public Works.

The Media Security Department appeals to road users to be extra cautious, particularly, those who use the Jahra road heading to Kuwait City and Sabah Health area.
