At a press conference inside the ministry premises Tuesday, the Assistant Undersecretary for Power Distribution Networks Saleh Al-Muslim said the accident happened at 8:30am due to human error during maintenance activities.
Al-Muslim disclosed visiting the injured people at the hospital to ensure they receive adequate medical attention. He assured the two victims who have been admitted for major injuries they suffered during the accident will be discharged from Al-Babtain Hospital in few days. He also said the station resumed full activity two hours after the incident and that material losses were minimal. He said the ministry has since formed a committee to investigate the event to forestall similar incidents in the future. He stressed that the ministry has been transparent to the media, and noted accidents of this magnitude have been prevented since May 2011 when he was appointed to head the sector — except for minor accidents resulting from faulty transformers.
