Crisis hits establishment of labor authority Salafi support for Sultan in next polls not assured
KUWAIT CITY, July 2: Senior members of the Salafist Islamic Movement do not want MP Khalid Al-Sultan to contest the next parliamentary elections, because they believe he has trespassed the group’s boundaries, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily quoting a source said the lawmaker had promised to work in line with the group’s desire and seek its opinion before acting, but he reneged on the promise and according to the movement, Al-Sultan has started following the footsteps of opposition lawmakers after he became the Deputy National Assembly Speaker, and without considering the principles of the movement.
The source stressed that Al-Sultan has taken some wrong steps lately, which displease the leadership of the movement, citing his participation in protests at the Erada Square against the Salafists’ will.
He pointed out that many members of the movement will not vote for Al-Sultan in the next election, and that the movement will decide on another person to represent their interests.
As a result of the political crisis in the country many important laws have failed to see the light of day, laws such as the establishment of a labor authority and the cooperative societies law, reports Al-Dar daily quoting sources from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.
The sources pointed the establishment of a labor authority is not expected to materialize in the near future although a lot of hopes hang on this authority which may eliminate the phenomenon of trafficking in visas and may remedy the situation of expatriates.
It will also help erase the name of Kuwait as one of the countries involved in human trafficking.
In another report, the number of eligible voters in the five constituencies total 420,000; including the newly-registered voters, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting sources.
Sources confirmed the committee finalized the list of eligible voters after adding the new voters, while removing those who had died.
