Embassy probes Pinoy’s ‘suicide’ Real cause of death sought
KUWAIT CITY, July 6: The Philippine Embassy is now looking into the case of the Filipina Household Service Worker who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside her room at her employer’s house in Qadsiya on July 1, 2012, disclosed the Head of the Assistance to Nationals Unit at the Philippine Embassy Dalidig Ibrahim Tanandato to the Arab Times on Friday. He informed that police authorities identified the Filipina Household Service Worker as Jeneby Ventura Guilaran, 35 years old, a native of Carmen, North Cotabato in Southern Philippines, married and with two kids. A suicide case number 17-2012 was registered at the Qadsiya police station.
“We want to know the real cause of her death or if there was any foul play. Upon learning about her death, I immediately dispatched ATN Action Officer Mar Hassan and ATN Interpreter Muamar Mamucion to the Qadsiya police station to get the details surrounding Guilaran’s alleged suicide, “ he said.
Tanandato summoned Guilaran’s employer to the embassy on Thursday to shed light on her death. “According to Guilaran’s employer, they can’t see any reason why Guilaran would take her own life. They are not aware of any problem that she might have,” cited Tanandato.
The employer further stated that Guilaran had been working with them for two and a half years and had been given day off every Friday. He maintained that the Filipina HSW was treated like a member of their own family.
“Guilaran’s employer recounted that on the night of her death, she was seen happy taking photos with her employer’s mother. On the day of her death, Guilaran even took her breakfast but she did show up for lunch. They tried to call her but there was no answer. They knocked on her room but it was locked. Sensing that something was wrong with her, they called the Kuwait fire department to break down the door of Guilaran’s room where they found her body hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling of her room,” narrated Tanandato.
Guilaran’s body was referred to the Kuwait forensic department for further investigation. The case is now under investigation at the Prosecutor’s Office at the Kuwait Justice Palace. “We are closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities and will continue monitoring her case as we wait for the results of the investigation,” stressed Tanandato.
Meanwhile, Guilaran’s employer assured the embassy that he is willing to shoulder the repatriation expenses of Guilaran’s remains to the Philippines after the investigation is completed.
