Health Minister orders probe into all violations ‘By-laws not observed’
KUWAIT CITY, July 16: Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi has demanded an intensive investigation of certain medical violations mentioned in an article was published in Al-Seyassah newspaper on Sunday. However, ministerial sources wondered if the minister would seriously investigate the matter in which senior ministerial officials are allegedly involved reports Al-Seyassah daily.
They revealed that some senior ministerial officials had failed to observe certain by-laws and regulations for the good of some majority bloc lawmakers of the nullified 2012 Parliament.
They explained that two female physicians working in the consultative committees for overseas treatment had refused to approve the transactions of cardiac arrest and sterility cases as they were treated locally. Reportedly, a fight flared up between the committee officials and the doctors because the doctors refused to violate the by-laws and eventually they decided to refrain from the activities of the committees for last two months.
Sources disclosed that one of the surgeons from Surgery Department frequently dispatches patients to Canada for treatment, as he desires to be a part of the Canadian Board. Reportedly, after he failed to achieve a place in the Board through the legal channels, he decided to utilize his position to dispatch cases to the physician in charge of the Canadian Board in order to influence the latter’s decision to include him in the Board.
Furthermore, sources urged the Cabinet to question the minister regarding the reasons behind keeping aside former director of Overseas Treatment Department and the resignation of two members, indicating that to reveal the hidden secrets of the case, the assistant director of Administrative Affairs at Overseas Treatment Department should be questioned.
They stressed that the ministry recruited some consultants from Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) a few months back to shoulder the responsibility of most violations committed in this case.
A former member of Overseas Treatment Committee disclosed that he had once received by mistake the file of one of the parliamentary candidates that included demands for the overseas treatment of 120 cases of the sons of his constituency members. He added that he had rejected all those demands as they were treatable locally and did not included the necessary medical reports required in this regard.
MPs Rola Dashti and Adnan Abdulsamad demanded the Health Minister disclose the identities of the bribe-takers involved in the case of overseas treatment, pointing out that millions of Kuwaiti dinars have been depleted for the good of corrupt lawmakers who on one hand claim they are honest while on the other hand, steals the right of patients deserving overseas treatment and gives it to others for electoral benefits.
