‘Political arena collective effort of all constituencies’ Need to listen to public’s opinions, views: Barrack
KUWAIT CITY, July 20: MP Musallam Al-Barrak says it is essential to reach out to the public to listen to their opinions and views, as they are the ones who are mainly affected by the problems in Kuwait.
During a seminar titled ‘Legislative and Constitutional Demands’ organized by political activist Dr Mubarak Al-Dhirwa, Al-Barrak explained that the local political arena is the collective effort of all constituencies and they will not succumb to any manipulation by the government who are trying to play with the minds of the public.
He stressed that he did not understand the link between the nullification of 2012 Parliament and the modification to the constituency system and voting system, indicating that some foul play was carried out against the choice of people which had materialized on February 2, 2012.
He insisted that they possess unshakeable conviction that is unwilling to accept any dispute against Article 4 of the Kuwaiti Constitution, which states that ‘Kuwait is a hereditary Emirate, the succession to which shall be in the descendants of the late Mubarak al-Sabah... In case no designation is achieved in accordance with the foregoing procedure, the Amir shall nominate at least three of the descendants of the late Mubarak Al-Sabah of whom the National Assembly shall pledge allegiance to one as heir Apparent... The said law shall be of a constitutional nature and therefore shall be capable of amendment only by the procedure prescribed for amendment of the Constitution’.
However, he pointed out that Article 6 challenges Article 4 by stating that ‘The system of government in Kuwait shall be democratic, under which sovereignty resides in the people, the source of all powers. Sovereignty shall be exercised in the manner specified in this Constitution’.
During the seminar, Al-Barrak praised the people of Syria for their struggle for freedom, indicating that the resilience of the Syrians can cause the Bathist regime to crumble.
