When a man who is wise and experienced in Kuwaiti politics speaks, it is not for mere political consumption, but to dot the i’s and cross the t’s because somewhere a warning bell rings again and again. When parliamentarian and Speaker of the National Assembly Jassem Al-Kharafi saw things from his perspective, he gave a press conference to diagnose accurately the malady that Kuwait was suffering from because for him Kuwait had reached a point of no return. Therefore, we have to lend our ears and reflect on what Al-Kharafi said: ‘we will have no time to lament the day we allowed some people to kill our homeland’.

If we had paid attention to what Al-Kharafi had said behind closed doors, we would not be witnesses to all these fallouts blown in all directions by the political winds which have damaged the interests and dented the hopes of the citizens.
Had we paid attention to what Al-Kharafi had to say we would have saved a lot of time and not appeased the militias of political blackmail and thugs. But we surrendered in the hope this militia was capable of putting the nation on the right track.
Nonetheless, we call it ‘God’s blessing in disguise’ because the crises have unfolded the facts. The recent crisis has revealed the malicious intentions of ‘some’ who in the name of reforms were working to implement their agenda — constitutional amendments to tip the scales in their favor and change the political, economic and social face of the State.

It is no secret that some MPs from the voided National Assembly have evil desires. They have built their strategy on false accusations against others but deep in their heart the desire was to hold the country hostage, block all the roads that lead to reforms and application of the law.
Over the past few years Kuwait had made it clear that it wants to embark on the road to development and progress. However the majority members of the voided National Assembly chose to meddle into the affairs of all authorities held the nation hostage and worked tirelessly to undo all achievements.
This Assembly tried to suffocate the executive authority and treat it like a secretariat for its MPs to appoint ministers and undersecretaries whose certificates qualify them to shout at the Erada Square ‘Leave ... Leave’ as if they wanted all Kuwaitis who don’t tow their line to leave the country.

These MPs intervened in the judiciary and even recommended that they should be given the right to appoint one-third members to the Supreme Judiciary Council, amend the Constitutional Court laws and abolish the Ministers Court.
Later they would want to silence the voice of righteousness who would want to bring to book their supporters planted in the government agencies should they succeed in their ‘sabotage’ plan.
We saw attempts being made by the majority members of the annulled National Assembly to control the society by amending Article II of the Constitution. When they failed, they shifted their attention to Article 79.

We saw their quest to overthrow ministers and execute their political careers. They looked like death squads and not MPs chosen by the people to represent them in the House. Up to this moment, their speeches look like statements issued by the liberation army dictating its terms on the nation - the nation which cannot afford to refuse.
What Jassem Al-Kharafi said during the press conference was what a ‘State should be’. He has said the State must not be afraid of a few people who gather at one of the squares and shout slogans.
A State which is strong does not surrender to blackmail but eradicates it. The State of law must be firm while addressing its issues and make the guilty face the wrath of the law.

The State must deter those who try to blackmail people. The State must put its foot down, because if it bows down to threats it will allow vested interests to add fuel to fire and feed the greed of the extortionists with multiple their demands.
Those who raise their voices must realize that there are people who are loyal to the Ruler and the law and they too enjoy equal rights - wise people whose voices are sober and reasonable but with powerful effect. These people are not fools to fall for the tricks of those who trade in empty slogans.
At his press conference, Al-Kharafi said publicly ‘With God as my witness, I had told them’. Yes, Al-Kharafi had warned us and we fear for the future of our children and the fate of the nation.
Therefore we agree that “We do not have to believe in those who are unworthy to issue fatwas or those who issue threatening statements because they can do nothing.

We must work hard in line with the laws laid down by the state of institutions now that the Constitutional Court with its verdict has undone a terrible nightmare that had plagued the sleep of Kuwaitis. The hope now rests in the compassionate and caring hands of His Highness the Amir who always supports us and promised us that this nightmare will never again be visible in Kuwait.
