Kuwaiti acquitted in stealing wife’s car Dashti sues ex-MP Harbash son

KUWAIT CITY, July 29: The Court of Appeals overruled the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which had sentenced a citizen to three-year imprisonment for stealing his wife’s vehicle, and acquitted him.
Reportedly, the defendant’s wife had filed a case against him after they separated due to several conflicts. She stated that while she was at the parking lot of Al-Sabah Hospital, she was surprised to see her husband there. He pulled her forcefully out of the vehicle, jumped into it and drove away. She later discovered that he had transferred the vehicle in his name officially using a proxy which was nullified.

Defense Attorney Abdullah Al-Alanda requested the court to acquit his client, stressing that the complaint was malicious due to the conflicts between the couple. He said the witnesses denied the incident of theft and investigations by Criminal Evidence Department did not indicate that the vehicle was taken forcefully from the defendant’s wife.

Dashti sues ex-MP Harbash son: Attorney Dr Abdul-Hamid Dashti has filed a petition at the Public Prosecution against Abdullah Al-Harbash, the son of MP Jamaan Al-Harbash, for his alleged participation in the Parliament building break-in in November 2011. He also demanded compensation of KD 5,001 for the civil aspect of the case.
In his petition, Dashti explained the younger Al-Harbash was among those who stormed into the Parliament building on Nov 16, 2011, during which they destroyed public property and attacked security operatives. He claimed these people ignored the instructions of the security officers for them to leave the premises because they were determined to commit a crime and perpetrate destruction.
Dashti said the officers arrested 68 of the protesters and referred them to the court after the preliminary investigations. He was surprised when he found out that Abdullah Al-Harbash was not among those charged in court despite his involvement in the break-in. He based his accusation on photographs, eyewitness accounts and investigations.
According to Dashti, he filed the petition in his capacity as a member of the annulled Parliament and a lawyer who strives hard in protecting national interests and public properties, especially in the legislative building. He cited Article 227 of the Civil Law to support his argument and demanded punishment for the younger Al-Harbash, in addition to requiring him to pay compensation for the moral and material destructions.
