Dry heat wave to ‘hit Kuwait’ ‘Apply special laws’
KUWAIT CITY, July 30: The Meteorological Expert at General Administration of Civil Aviation Jamal Ibrahim revealed that a wave of dry heat is expected to hit the country within the next two days, adding that the expected temperature would be 50 degrees at Kuwait International Airport while it could be higher in deserts.
Ibrahim implored people of Kuwait to avoid outdoor activities when the temperature is high to avoid suffering from sunstroke.
He advised people to drink plenty of water particularly after breaking their fast to replenish the fluids drained from their bodies during the day.
Meanwhile, Chairman of General Union of Kuwait Workers Fayez Al-Muteiri said the union is demanding the government apply special laws and regulations considering the high temperatures experienced during the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that the union requires work to be suspended on days when temperatures are extremely high and to announce them as paid day-offs similar to other countries.
Furthermore, he stressed that the union demanded extra remunerations for working round the clock on urgent issues, due to the extra effort required to work while the temperatures are high.
He added that the union is insisting on reducing the working hours at these places as much as possible, as well as providing insurance and security to the employees during their working hours.
