KAC receives quotations to buy aircraft

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4:  The Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) has started receiving quotations for the purchase of different types of aircraft as part of the plan to develop its fleet, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources said three important decrees related to the corporation are expected to be issued immediately after the dissolution of the 2009 Parliament.  Sources explained these decrees are aimed at expediting procedures for the purchase of new aircraft, especially during the absence of the National Assembly to ease the process, in addition to the reformation of the KAC Board of Directors.

Sources revealed former minister Captain Sami Al-Nisf will most likely run for the chairmanship of the KAC Board, affirming the government decided to make important changes after the series of emergency landings made by KAC airplanes due to technical faults and other problems.  Sources said there is a plan to merge the corporation with the Public Authority for Investment for three years and it intends to pay its debts estimated at KD460 million.

Sources added the KAC employees, who want to retire, will receive their financial privileges.  Sources said the corporation will also eliminate the preferential treatment in the recruitment process to avoid the recurrence of its current problems in the future.  Sources attributed the problems of KAC to the recruitment of unqualified workers as some people allegedly use ‘wasta’ (influence) to obtain a job in the corporation.
