Salary ‘promises’

I’ve been working in my company for the last nine years and in the span of those years, I have never got any increment in my salary. This issue was discussed with my previous superiors and they promised me that I will be given my salary increment which never materialized since they were already out of the company due to unavoidable things transpiring during their term.

Then came another management that replaced them and I sent them a written letter concerning this problem. Prior to this, I had a verbal discussion with my superior a couple of times and he promised me that he will increase my salary.

Aside from this problem is, I cannot see the logic in terms of salary scale. The assistant is getting more than me which is totally absurd despite discussing this matter with them no action has been taken.

My question is, can I ask the company to give me what is due to me for the previous years in terms of salary according to my position? If no action is taken, can I file a case against the company?

Answer:
You should discuss the issue with your management because you don’t have any written reply from the management promising you anything.
Secondly, such cases have so far only been filed and won by Kuwaitis, but in the public sector.
But there is nothing stopping you from filing a case against your firm if you have proof that ‘discrimination’ of some sort is involved alongwith the fact that other people in the same job are getting more and so is your assistant.
Even then, since you are working for a private company, nothing in the Labor Law requires firms to pay people according to seniority or length or service nor is there any compulsion to give increments.
So, the better way out of the whole situation is to sit down and discuss the issue with the management.
