Al-Deehani earns Amir’s praise ‘Significant mark in Kuwait’s sports history’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received Kuwaiti Olympic bronze-medalist shooter Fehaid Al-Deehani at Sief Palace on Wednesday.

Al-Deehani won his medal for trap shooting at the London Olympics and was praised by the Amir for his accomplishment.

The Amir described the achievement as “a significant mark in the history of Kuwaiti sports”, adding that this was achieved through the great courage and distinctive performance by the marksman.

Meanwhile, Al-Deehani said that he was very privileged and honored to have met HH the Amir and to have presented him with the medal.

He added that he was “proud to have achieved this medal, in the name of Kuwait, along with another (bronze) in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.” The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of the Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, Minister of Communication and Acting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Salem Al-Utheina, and Undersecretary of Information Ministry and President of Kuwait Shooting Federation Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Homoud Al-Sabah.

Al-Utheina thanked the Amir for his “great contribution”, amid efforts that were successful in allowing Kuwait to raise its official flag once again at international sports venues.

Sheikh Salman said that this Olympic achievement is a result of the Amir’s support of Kuwaiti athletes. He also pledged his commitment to serving his role in the best interests of the country.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah also: received Al-Deehani at his Diwan in Sief Palace on Wednesday.

The Crown Prince praised Al-Deehani’s achievement, which he said was accomplished through persistence and determination, adding it had brought a new source for pride for Kuwaitis.

He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation of the role assumed by the Kuwaiti Olympic staff delegation, urging them to continue these efforts in the future.

The meeting was attended by Diwan of the Crown Prince Director, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Faisal Al-Saud Al-Sabah, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, Chairman and Director-General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) Faisal Al-Jazzaf and members of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Shooting Club.

Later, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received Al-Deehani at Sief Palace

The PM praised Al-Deehani’s accomplishment and wished him lasting success in attaining further sports achievements in the name of Kuwait.

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude of the role assumed by administrators and coaching staff in supporting Al-Deehani march to glory, stressing the importance of maintaining these efforts for the future of the sport.

Sheikh Jaber also urged Kuwaiti youth to think of Al-Deehani as a role model and as the best example of a servant to his nation, adding that Kuwaiti youth have the potential and ability to be successful in many fields.
