Kuwaitis evacuated from Lebanon: envoy ‘All safe and sound’
BEIRUT, Aug 17, (KUNA): Almost all Kuwaiti citizens left here for home on Thursday, Kuwait Ambassador to Lebanon Abdul-Aal Al-Qana’ei said.
“Four flights have carried our nationals from here in the wake of the security instability in Lebanon in the last three days,” Al-Qana’ei said in statements to KUNA.
“The four flights included three by Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) and one by Al-Jazeera Airways,” he pointed out.
“The evacuation is in line with instructions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the travel advisory issued by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry last night,” he noted.
Al-Qana’ei added that his embassy is in contact with the few remaining nationals to ensure their safety in coordination with the Ministry’s operations room which was set up under instructions of HH the Amir.
The remaining Kuwaiti citizens in Lebanon are “safe and sound”, said charge d’affaires Fahad Al-Masoud, noting that the consulate was working around the clock to secure their safe return home.
Al-Masoud said earlier that there were several flights for Kuwaiti citizens who wanted to get back home.
He also called on Kuwaiti citizens who want to leave Lebanon to contact the embassy on these numbers: 0096171007748 or 009617005666.
This action came on the backdrop of airport road being blocked by the angry relatives of Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria.
Meanwhile, a number of current and former lawmakers held the government responsible for protecting the interests of the Kuwaiti citizens who reside in Lebanon, reports Al-Shahed daily.
This came following a threat issued by one of the Lebanese tribes to kidnap GCC citizens.
The lawmakers called upon the government to bring the citizens from Lebanon safe and sound.
