KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6, (KUNA): Alternative energy is not an option but a necessity that can provide society with clean and environmentally friendly sources of energy to meet life’s requirements, an international conference on such energy concluded here on Friday. Energy demand is on the rise as most countries in the world import at least half of their energy needs, a final communique issued today by the conference, attended by 75 countries, said here. It suggested that strategies be put in place to promote the application of alternative energy, with the emphasis on reducing the cost of its use. Among these strategies, it said, would be to establish information centers to disseminate knowledge on alternative energy and to elevate public awareness of its merits in their lives.
Furthermore, the communique urged decision makers to adopt legislations that enable professionals in the field of energy such as engineers and architects and others to utilize alternative energy in their chosen jobs. For alternative energy to be correctly exploited, it should be taken up by industries that rely a great deal in their businesses on energy-consumption, said the communique. Much research and study ought to go into making alternative energy indispensable to both the public and the industrial sector, it said. It added that with a holistic approach to making alternative energy a common source of energy for use at home or in the factory, it will pay off well in the future as the technology of producing it brings down the cost and as and added advantage creates new alternative energy jobs.
