Ministry cuts down new budget by over hundred million dinars

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17: With over 2,600 Public Authority of the Disabled employees no longer under the control of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the ministry has cut down its new budget on Chapter 1 (salaries and wages only) by over hundred million dinars, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily quoting a source noted the ministry has communicated the information to Ministry of Finance for approval and still waiting for response from the latter. He said the ministry has completed fiscal year 2018/2019 budget and over KD 400 million was proposed, noting the proposal was sent to the Ministry of Finance for approval. He explained that employees were transferred to Public Authority of the Disabled from four departments. He disclosed that officials did not allow the reduction to affect the aspect of social aid, affirming the ministry is among the first set of ministries to implement the government policy of rationalizing expenditure starting from next year.

He indicated the ministry reduced KD 123 million from the value of fiscal year 2017/2018 budget using Oracle system, while the budget of fiscal year 2016/2017 was worth KD 657 million.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Saad Al-Kharaaz revealed that pensioners can benefit from the priority card called “Awlawiyha Card” issued by the Department of Elderly Care at the mobile care units in all governorates, reports Al-Anba daily. He said this card will be issued to pensioners above the age of 65 years in order to obtain priority for completion of all kinds of transactions in all governmental bodies. Al-Kharaaz clarified that the card for the needy will be issued to only needy elderly people who suffer from different financial circumstances determined by certain terms and conditions, adding that this card exempts needy elderly people from paying fees in governmental bodies.
